We apparently have an election for State Senator on Tuesday the 10th. (Who knew?) :) This election decides who holds the majority in the Senate, but from my perspective, there has been almost no media discussion about this important race.
.
I went to a candidate forum at Goochland HS last night as the only thing I knew about them was in the slick flyers that began showing up in the mail a few days ago. I had no idea who I might vote for as I knew nothing about any of the candidates. I now know who I am voting for. It was actually a great forum as all three candidates were there. It was (unfortunately) a small crowd, so the format was informal, but more than enough to get a feel for the candidates.
.
Hines - Independent Conservative, throws in the word "Christian" frequently, but not real hung up on social issues. Clearly a knowledgeable businessman with some good ideas to improve business. Largely lacking in knowledge about other legislative issues. I liked him, but wasn't "inspired."
.
Peake - Republican He's right wing, particularly on social issues, and he is poised to legislate his morality on the rest of us He was asked if he would represent the citizens of the county and he made it clear that if elected he would represent his personal views. Not an option for me, even if I liked some of his fiscal responsibility talk.
.
Washington - Democrat. Left his "speech" on the table and spoke directly to the audience. Far and away the best communicator. Far and away the most knowledgeable and experienced. Far and away the most diplomatic and reasonable.
.
What we have are three options. Hines is interested in business, and growing revenue. Peake is interested in Republicans, and cutting taxes and services. Washington is interested in people and working with what we have to solve problems here and now. Washington gets my vote.Pathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17115358933565444308noreply@blogger.com
